Warsaw, 22.09.2016 - 24.09.2016 CFE General Assembly

Welcome to Warsaw

Warsaw is the capital and largest city of Poland, located in the center of Europe at the intersection of routes from west to east and north to south of the continent.

Warsaw is an important center of science, culture, politics and economy. Most important institutions have their headquarters in the city: the President of Poland, the Parliament, the Council of Ministers or National Bank of Poland.

The historical part of Warsaw was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1980. Most of the monuments destroyed during the Second War were rebuilt, sometimes losing their resemblance to the pre-war originals, an example being the Royal Castle. The capital also boasts many valuable buildings that survived the war without major damage, like the Wilanów Palace or the Presidential Palace. There is really much to see in Warsaw: the Old Town, Warsaw Uprising Museum, Palace of Culture, the Parliament, Royal Łazienki Park, Warsaw University, or Museum of the history of Polish Jews, which has been selected the European Museum of the Year 2016.

The Gala dinner will be held at the Kubicki Arkades, part of the Royal Castle in Warsaw. Formerly the residence of kings and the seat of the Parliament of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the castle today is a museum, a center for education, arts and culture, open to the general public, and also a place where important state ceremonies are held. Kubicki Arcades were designed by Jakub Kubicki, an outstanding architect of the Classicist era, awarded with a grant from the King Stanislaus Augustus Foundation. The Arcades joined the Castle Gardens: the upper garden is situated on the escarpment, while the lower one is in the area adjoining the bed of the Vistula River. The arcades were one of the very few parts of the Castle to survive the damage of World War II.
